Afghanistan Report
Submitted by William on February 13, 2009 - 7:43pm.
Attached is the final version of the NCF's report on Afghanistan. This report is inevitably controversial. The original draft put forward three alternative solutions to the Afghan problem but this created confusion. This report therefore puts forward a specific strategy. It is not and cannot be regarded as an NCF viewpoint because our membership is too diverse to reach any such consensus. It is the view of a majority of the members of an Afghanistan Working Group put together by the NCF.

Afghanistan is a volatile country as of the moment and a very unstable one as well. Right now, Afghanistan does not need war anymore, all it need is a perfect leader. If not perfect, a better one can do. And it is just inspiring to know that even though this country is the midst of hopelessness, devastation and internal catastrophe, it has still managed to stand tall even still struggling in economy. So help is definitely still needed for this country!

Corruption is the most
Corruption is the most pressing issue in Afghanistan. Endemic corruption invalidates state credibility. In order for Afghanistan to move towards stability and peace, the state must gain the faith of its citizens. This requires urgent reform of the political and bureaucratic leadership.

The activities that
The activities that constitute illegal corruption differ depending on the country or jurisdiction. For instance, certain political funding practices that are legal in one place may be illegal in another. In some cases, government officials have broad or poorly defined powers, which make it difficult to distinguish between legal and illegal actions. Worldwide, bribery alone is estimated to involve over 1 trillion US dollars annually
