Outcomes and key recommendations from NCF August conference
1. That there should be a public education campaign to emphasise the benefits of a two-state solution. 2. That the Arab Peace Initiative should be a basis for any peace process; it should be supported with the establishment of an organisation comprising both Israelis and Palestinians that would promote this initiative to the people of Israel and Palestine. The delegates also agreed that the execution of these two points was urgent. A caucus of the conference made a number of specific proposals which we include as an attachment; these more detailed recommendations (on Iraq, Iran and the Mid East Peace Process respectively) were distributed to the Foreign Ministers of the countries from which delegates were drawn and were based on the deliberations of the seven working groups that convened during the conference. These are NCF recommendations and are not consensus documents. This was the largest conference ever organised by the NCF. A wide range of countries were represented either officially or unofficially including, the United States of America; United Kingdom; Tunisia; Syria; Switzerland; Palestine; Oman; Lebanon; Kuwait; Jordan; Israel; Iraq; Germany; Egypt; and Algeria. As with all NCF meetings, the names of participants and details of the proceedings remain off the record.
